The work below is what I do for fun. I derive inspiration from a number of things. Often times its history, science, anime, movies and music. What was just a hobby when I first started my graphic design career later on helped me make the transition into motion design. This body of work is ongoing.
My approach to illustration starts with an extensive image search. I find all kinds of images relating to the subject. I compile the images into a mood board. If the theme revolves around history, I do the same but with research. I keep notes on things that I might find pertinent to the creation. Then, once I have a better understanding of the subject matter, I go on to the image search. Once I’ve completed my visual deep-dive. I’ll move on to figuring out a proper color palette.
Here’s where the fun starts with my process, illustrating and composing the artwork. My stylistic approach with any animation or illustration generally has the following elements. Textures, grain, noise, gradients, depth and shadows. At the conception of any project, if I know I’m going to animate the art, I’ll create a composition with intentional depth and the space for movement.
