This project came to fruition during the height of the of the pandemic. With the added time to himself, my client decided to focus on a passion project—a YouTube channel called Generational Talk. With the current political climate, the pandemic and other great happenings in the world, he figured now is as good a time as any to seek perspective. The channel features special guests from different backgrounds and age ranges, hoping to have a constructive dialogue about the world today. He came to me wanting me to help create the branding for his channel.
I was given full creative freedom with the branding. Knowing that the channel would cover a wide-range of topics and feature a number of speakers, I chose imagery from relevant eras. I used a timeline graphic to represent the passing time. YouTube users engage with vibrant colors, so I creating a vibrant color palette.
The color palette was inspired by African American culture. I used texture and grain to symbolize the turmoil that people have experienced through the generations. The animation flows seamlessly to reflect how seamless one generation flows to the next. I also produced the background music.
